He had been to see the Wizard and received his “heart”. It had been a journey filled with adventure, new friends, and danger. But the Tinman had withstood it all, standing by the side of his new friends. Perhaps along the way, he showed he had a heart all along, and just needed to be reminded that what beats within the chest is not what makes us human. It is the sharing of things that are relevant; like helping a friend whose in trouble, willing to stand up for what’s right, and doing what we can to make others feel better about themselves. The Tinman’s journey brought him satisfaction, not from the clock pinned to his chest to represent a beating heart, but from learning that he could feel human, by acting humanly.

In 1900 when the book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was first published, L. Frank Baum had no idea it would become the foundation of what would constitute for millions of people their first, lasting memory of childhood; the film, the Wizard of Oz.
Since the release of the 1939 film, the chronicles of Dorothy’s journey to seek the assistance of the all powerful Wizard of Oz, have brought countless hours of enjoyment to children worldwide. The magical Land of Oz is filled with beauty and strange people and characters, a few scary creatures and the Wicked Witch sisters (one of whom does not last long) and their counterpart the beautiful, serene Glinda the Good Witch.
As Dorothy travels along the yellow brick road from the city of the Munchkins, she gathers to her the three companions who seek as she does a solution to a problem that is pertinent to each of them.
The second companion Dorothy meets is the Tinman, a tin woodsman who stood in the rain too long, and rusted in place. Dorothy comes to his aid, and he joins her to ask the Wizard of Oz for a heart, for he feels empty inside and wants to experience the true feelings that having a heart brings. Perhaps the Tinman is your favorite character from the Wizard of Oz; putting on the silver suit can bring the Tinman to life and you can treat your family and friends with this appealing character.
